Poker is played in hundreds of variations. Depending on the game rules, one or more players can place an amount of money into the pot before the cards are dealt. They are called forced bets and come in three forms such as: antes, blinds, and bring-ins. Like many card games, poker begins when the dealer shuffles, cut and deal the cards from the deck. The first drawn cards are dealt face-down to the players. In casinos the dealer handles the cards for each hand. A button, which can be any small item used as a marker and also called a buck, is rotated among the players in order to determine the order of dealing and betting. In a home game, the right to deal the cards typically rotates among the players clockwise, but a button may still be used, it is a matter of choice. After the initial deal, the first betting rounds begins. Between rounds often players can replace cards previously dealt. During a round of betting, there will always be a current bet amount, which is always the total amount of money bet in this round by the player who bet last in this round. Usually bets are placed in front of each player toward the pot. When the round is over then the bets are gathered into the pot. After the first betting round is over there could be more rounds in which more cards are dealt in, followed by further rounds of betting. At any time, if one player makes a bet and all other players fold, the deal ends immediately. Then no cards are shown, no more rounds are dealt, and the next deal begins. This is when a person can bluff and actually win the game. After the last betting round, if more than one player remains, comes the showdown in which the players show their hidden cards and evaluate their hands. The player with the best hand according to the poker variant being played wins the pot.
